    AI just started Blooming

Two and a half years ago, a small team at the University of Agder, consisting of Christian Omlin, Alexandra Lazareva, four students and myself, started developing a web application combining GenAI with learning theory, namely Bloom’s taxonomy of educational objectives. Today, I have the plasure of sharing with you my warm feelings for the start of an Erasmus+ international project which aims at improving the application, developing an open-source learning platform based on the same idea, piloting it and make it available for any teacher or institution would like to use it as a learning-assisting tool.

Our project, BloomingAI, is an innovative initiative aimed at revolutionizing the landscape of education through the integration of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). This project brings together the University of Agder, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and the University of Luxembourg, to collaborate on developing an AI-powered open-source learning platform grounded in Bloom’s taxonomy.

The primary goal of BloomingAI is to enhance teaching and learning methodologies by creating AI-driven assistants that facilitate structured, student-active, and adaptive learning experiences. By aligning our educational tools with established pedagogical frameworks, we want to ensure that educators and students can navigate the complexities of AI integration in education responsibly and effectively.

One of the things that excite me most about this project is its commitment to ethical AI use and promoting AI literacy among both students and educators. As we embark on this journey, we will assess the current needs and gaps in AI-assisted learning, develop innovative teaching, learning and assessment methodologies, and pilot these new strategies across participating institutions. The expected outcomes include increased AI literacy, enhanced student engagement, and sustainable partnerships among higher education institutions.

The BloomingAI project is not just about technology; it’s about creating an inclusive and supportive educational environment that empowers learners and educators alike. I am optimistic about the positive impact this initiative will have on the future of education and look forward work with excellent colleagues at the three partner institutions. I also look forward to sharing our progress as we move forward.

Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this important and exciting journey!
